Who we are

The UoR Hackathon is organised by the University of Reading Computer Science Society (RUCSSOC). The society's elected representatives are the people responsible for the personal data you provide when registering for this event.

What we collect

When you register, we ask for:

  • Your first and last name
  • Your University of Reading student email address (ending in @student.reading.ac.uk)

We do not collect any other personal information through this website.

Why we collect it

We use your details only to:

  • Confirm you are eligible to attend (a UoR student)
  • Contact you with practical information about the hackathon (schedule, location, check-in details, theme reveal)
  • Manage attendance on the day

Our lawful basis for processing under UK GDPR is legitimate interests — running a society event you have signed up for.

Who sees your data

Your details are accessible only to the elected representatives of the Computer Science Society who are organising the hackathon. We do not sell your data, and we do not share it with sponsors or third parties without asking you separately.

How long we keep it

We keep your registration details until the end of the academic year in which the event takes place, after which the registration list is deleted. If you ask us to remove your data sooner, we will do so.

Your rights

Under UK GDPR you have the right to access, correct, or request deletion of the personal data we hold about you, and to complain to the Information Commissioner's Office (ICO) if you believe we have mishandled it.
